I know this is work in progress but you do know that he is one of the ones that went missing right xD so in his history there has to be a paragraph about the fact he doesnt remember anything from being missing. Also since Lightning has taken the spot of his captaincy he can't get it back straight away...later in the plot he can but right now maybe go for lieutenant. It is because the central 46 don't trust those that have gone missing enough to give them back the captaincy straight away. (not until later and they find out why they went missing)

Also perhaps your first thread should be with Lightning, she could find him on a search mission and bring him back to the soul society. ^^ after all she is the one looking for him the most.
