A Storm in the Seireitei

It seemed like an average day in the Seireitei. The sun was out and it was rather cloudly. However it wasnt long before the sky was covered and the white clouds turned grey. It began to rain in the Soul Society. Many would find this type of weather trouble some however, there was one person who was walking the streets of the Seireitei during the storm. Captain of the 2nd Division, Tenrai Raiden, walked right in this downpour. The rain quickly picked up and the man merely looked up, his blonde hair covering his eyes. Tenrai moved his hair from his eyes and looked around. The streets were quickly evacuated as everyone got out of the storm and went into their barracks.

Tenrai merely sighed..."Not everyone can appreciate this type of beauty I guess", he said to himself as he continued to walk around the Seireitei. Just walking without a purpose.

Thanking the fact she wore the boots she did Lightning walked through the numerous pools of rain that had formed upon the ground. She was soaked from head to toe and could feel her clothing sticking to her body as she moved through the streets. Gently moving a piece of her fringe that had plastered itself too close to her eye her blue orbs locked onto movement ahead of her. It was odd, who else would be out in this weather? Sure she liked rain more then hot weather but would rather not be doing a patrol in such weather....she nearly always became ill after such adventures. So who was this man that was in this storm seemingly for no reason? She could make out the white of a captain's haori and she figured it must have been another new face.

Continuing on her course Lightning could sense a lightning bolt strike through the sky moments before it did so, Zetsu-maru always became so excited during this weather. Somehow she too felt at home amongst it, most felt some degree of discomfort in thunder storms but not her. Perhaps it was the fact she need not worry about being struck by lightning? whatever it was it was for the best she supposed, after all she could not avoid it. As hail began to fall from the sky Lightning headed for the cover of a large cherry blossom tree standing tall between the two officers, it's dense foliage would provide shelter from the golf ball sized hail pelting down. Unfortunately she knew that she would probably have to share the cover with this other officer....this was undesirable.

Tenrai continued to walk. The storm was picking up and it even began to hail and thunder and lightning began to appear. Tenrai closed his eyes as he heard the thunder, music to his ears. He could even feel his zanpaktou, Enrai Arashi beginning to react the storm. He then noticed the flash in the sky and he looked up at the lightning. He merely smiled as he looked at the beautiful work of nature above him. However his smile quickly faded as he narrowed his eyes. He could feel that he was being followed. He continued to walk forward and closed his eyes. He cleared his mind as he walked and he could sense that there was infact someone behind him. He was curious as to who would be out during this weather. He was almost sure that he was one of the only people that wouldnt mind being in such a storm.

Tenrai was actually quite an interesting indivisual. He never became sick...he never got a cold, not once ever since he became intune with his zanpaktou spirit. He could walk in any storm and not be effected by illness which others might have been. Tenrai's curiousity eventually overtook him as he wondered who was walking behind him. He turned around and noticed that there was another captain behind him. Tenrai knew much about the other captains as well as most officiers in the Seireitei. With his eiditic memory, it wasnt hard for him to do such a thing. He waited for her to get a little closer before he bowed slightly. "Hello, Lightning-sama. Interesting seeing you out here during this kind of weather", he said with a soft, friendly voice.

Lightning might have stopped to reply to the greeting if it had not been for the rather large chunk of hail that hit her fair on the top of the head. She had no intention of postponing her shelter under the large cherry blossom tree just up ahead. Walking past the now gently bowing man lightning spoke "Likewise" It had only taken a few metres to make it under the large tree and it's dense foliage. Relaxing as the constant pelting of hail ceased upon her body and most importantly her head Lightning leant her back againt the large trunk of her living umbrella.

Her eyes watched as the water flowed from her clothing and hair, seeping into the ground below. She had a feeling that the male captain would soon join her under the tree to continue the conversation. He didn't seem the type to leave it there. Not many would...unfortunately.

Tenrai took his time as Lightning walked towards the tree and he noticed that she had been hit by a piece of hail. He just turned and watched as she headed towards the tree. He followed her towards the tree however as she sat, he didnt go under it. He let her enjoy the entire tree to herself. Tenrai stood outside of the tree, his hands now in his pockets. He looked at the soaked captain and chuckled a bit as she didnt seem to like the weather as much as he did, however she didnt complain.

He then remember how hail at hit her a little time back. "How's your forehead...the hail might have hurt you", he said as he continued to stand outside in it. He didnt walk under the tree, however he wasnt hit by any hail. Perhaps he was just that lucky, or perhaps it was something else.

Lightning was intrigued by the fact that the man did not enter under the tree's protection also. There could have been many reasons for such a response, did she intimidate him to the point of fear? she had had that effect upon many others. Or was it that he simply enjoyed such storms? She had met several in her life that had that like, nearly all of them were related to the associated elements somehow and if the was the case she figured he would be no different. She herself did not dislike the weather, in fact she could say she liked it...just not perhaps being in the middle of it for patrol.

Lightning held back a scoff at the man's words, did he seriously think that a piece of hail would have hurt her? Obviously he had judged her on her outwards appearance far too much, he was looking upon her as a soaked woman caught in a storm and nothing more. Or perhaps, just perhaps he was merely trying to start a conversation...either way there had to be a better way to have approached it. Raising her blue eyes to the man she spoke "If it had i doubt i would be wearing this haori" She looked down at the piece of white fabric that now stuck to her body like the rest of her clothing, the once too large and billowing haori that would blow behind her as she walked was now almost skin tight. She furrowed her eyebrows slightly at that fact and moved her arms in an attempt to regain some movement from the fabric, she hated restricting clothing. Comfort was the most important thing, that and practicality of course.

Sensing Zetsu-maru becoming even more excited as the lightning danced through the sky she wondered is all Zanpaktou's were so responsive to outside stimuli. It was not uncommon for him to growl at people that walked bye that he disliked or whine when she passed the training grounds. Their bond was one o fthe strongest known, this was their major strength...this is what set them apart from others. Noticing the man's haori Lightning spoke once more "I see the second division has also been appointed a new captain"

Tenrai merely chuckled at her first comment. Perhaps she was offended by his comment? Honestly he had only said it to make some type of conversation, and although it wasnt the best way to start, it certainly did work. "You're right, you wouldnt be wearing a haori if that little piece of hail had really hurt you...but you know, sometimes it is the smaller blows that deliver the worst punches. Perhaps we can fight the worst of enemies, and survive. And perhaps what could bring us to our worst moments is an illness caused by weather like this", he said with a slight smile.

Tenrai as well could sense his zanpaktou's reaction to the weather. Like Lightning, Tenrai was also well intune with his zanpaktou. He and his zanpaktou Enrai Arashi, were very much alike. They spoke often and often vented to each other. They considered each other more than just zanpaktou and shinigami, but brother and sister...or even further two halves to one whole. Tenrai then closed his eyes and embraced the weather to himself for a moment, before hearing Lightning's next statement. He then nodded.

"Indeed. After the disappearance of our previous Captain I was nominated to replace her. Now I'm just trying to find my way and get to know the other captains. I'm actually glad that I met you here...and in my favorite weather to.", he said with a slight grin.

His favourite weather? Well that settled it then, he was definately of a relating element. For some reason or another she felt as if he was a fellow Lightning wielder, perhaps it was the fact Zetsu could sense it that she could too. If that was the case then he must have found her name to be icing on the cake. Lightning had been told many times throughout her life that her name was blatant and unoriginal, after all calling someone that wields lightning Lightning was not very creative. But many things were wrong with that statement, for starters how would her parents have known she would wield lightning? Not that Lightning was her birth name anyway, no that was something she had cast off long ago. She called herself lightning for reasons other than her elemental preferences, she had always found herself remembering the words that she had once heard. She found the saying to fit her like a glove, or so she believed anyway.

"Lightning it shines bright, then fades away. It cannot protect, It only destroys" She wondered if this man before her had also heard the saying, so she spoke it while looking out into the sky as it was illuminated by bolts of lightning.
