Subject: Tangled thoughts (Private for Cloud) Sat Feb 12, 2011 1:55 am

Leaning against the wall of her room Lightning relaxed as a cool breeze blew through the open doors leading to a moderately large garden area, it was nothing like the living quarters she had back in the Spirit Realm but it was comfortable. That was really all that mattered to Lightning when it came to living quarters, as long as it was comfortable it would do just fine. It was far more spacious and luxurious then most of the living quarters, she gathered that it was the Gotei 13’s way of trying to keep her happy. The scent of the large and solitary cherry blossom tree in the garden area wafted through the room carried upon the gentle breezes that blew through the open doors. Lightning sat once more in inner turmoil, she had been so since the events of two nights before. She had left Cloud in the 4th division barracks room alone without saying farewell, she felt regret for her actions. But she had no choice did she? If she had waited until he woke and spoke to him, if she had looked into those entrancing blue eyes once more she would not have been able to simply leave. But now, now that she had left without a farewell she felt horrible. She had not gotten to see how he felt, to see if he had recovered well. She still worried for the injured lieutenant that had helped her on that night, she still worried for the man that had seemingly taken over her thoughts. Cowardice, that was the only word she could use to describe her actions that morning. She had awoken to see Cloud still sleeping soundly, she had spent some time sitting and deliberating upon what actions she should have taken. Scared by the emotions and thoughts she had been feeling since she met him she took the easy way out, she left without waking him. But she found herself unable to leave without saying something, unable to say anything verbally she resorted to words written upon paper.

Cloud,

If you are reading this then you have awoken from your sleep, I hope that you are well rested and you're wounds are healed. I have left earlier this morning and did not wish to disturb your rest, say hello to Fenrir for me. Zetsu-maru says that he should like to him one day, as would I.

Those were the words she had scrawled upon the paper, she thought that in doing so it would ease her guilt in leaving without speaking to him. She was wrong, even now he still lurked deep in her thoughts. The memories of seeing him butcher his own body with his zanpaktou continually flashing through her mind, only interrupted by visions of his smile. She was confused, she did not understand what was happening to her since that night. It didn’t matter whether she was asleep or awake, he was in her thoughts.

Cloud spent two nights at the 4th division which seemed to pass by like mere seconds, maybe that was because he was extremely tired or maybe the reason was of the dream he had of Lightning in his sleep. He wasn't sure, he opened his eyes to find himself at the early morning, the first thing he did when he woke up was that he turned to see if Lightning was there or not, to his disappointment he didn't find her there. A sad look appeared on his face to her absence, she was no longer there and maybe back at her division. Before he could stay on his sad state for long, he remembered the dream he had. He dreamt of fighting the creature they both fought again but this time he died saving Lightning from a fatal and deadly blow. What made him happy in what could be seen as a nightmare was that before his last breathes, Lightning told him her true feelings towards him. But anyway, it was just a dream, somehow you would have to wake up and face reality. He was just about to get up and fix himself to leave the 4th division when he noticed a letter left.

When he opened the letter and slowly read it, he smiled to himself a cheerful smile; she had somehow left him a trace to find her. It was a good idea to pay her a visit and see how she was doing now. It was the end of the weekend after all and all shinigami were free to do whatever the pleased. He thought now of heading back to the 7th division to change into new fresh clothes and maybe take a shower as well then pays Lightning a visit. He left the 4th division after thanking the shinigami there for their hard work they did and headed off to his home which was close to the 7th division. The weather was a bit sunny but warm not too hot. There were still bandages wrapped around his knee and shoulder, he decided to remove them when he reached home.

It didn't take him long until he reached his house. As soon as he entered, he found Fenrir jump at him as a sign of welcoming him back home. His body was still not that fit for playing around with him, but he was glad see him. "How about we pay a beautiful woman a visit today?" he said with a smile as he patted him on the head. Fenrir barked in a sign of agreement. "Okay then, i'll take a shower and then we will be off". Cloud quickly took a warm and relaxing shower. There was nothing better than washing away all the blood and clean the wounds.

In about 10 minutes Cloud was out of the shower and ready to leave, he called out for Fenrir who came rushing behind him as he closed the door and started to walk down Soul Society's paths once again. It wasn't that hard to know where Lightning lived, she was a captain level after all. He just asked one of the 6th division about the captain's house where he explained to him the directions he should take to reach her. Cloud followed the shinigami's directions when he found himself in front of a nice looking house from the outside with a garden. It was a nice place to relax as well here. He and Lightning certainly had a lot in common; even Fenrir appeared to like the place as he was jumping around Cloud.

Cloud now walked towards the door and knocked waiting to see the beautiful Aqua eyes again of the captain.

Sighing in frustration as she failed to clear her mind of those vision Lightning stood from her seated position, to say it was a slow rise from the ground would have been an understatement. Her wounds were healed enough now that she need not worry about them re-opening or bleeding however her muscles were still sore and rather aggravated by the injuries they had received. She now had the residual aches and pains along with the stiffness from lack of movement to deal with as she got to her feet and made her way over towards the open doors and looked out to the sky. It was another fine day in the Seireitei, only the fluffy white clouds could be seen scattered throughout the light blue that was the sky. But unlike the searing hot days that had bee plaguing the Seireitei as of late the weather was mild and cool, breezes kept the hot sun from overwhelming those stuck underneath it. Of course that didn’t mean there was no heat to deal with, it simply meant that those that sought to escape it had options.

Suddenly Zetsu-maru sounded out through the silence with a bark full of excitement, appearing before Lightning he bounded around like a jack rabbit on sugar. Struggling not to laugh at him as he bounded around so much he bit his own tongue Lightning smiled and shook her head at the canine before her. No matter how often she fought with him by her side it was near impossible to see the battle hardened warrior within him when he acted in such a way. “What on earth has you so excited Zetsu-maru?” Receiving no answer Lightning watched Zetsu-maru for several moments as he vented his excitement, it was then that something else caught her attention. A familiar spiritual pressure was approaching their vicinity, now that wouldn’t seem so strange normally however being at her private quarters Lightning was not used to anyone coming this close to the vicinity. Something seemed familiar about the spiritual pressure, focusing in on it her eyes widened as she realised to whom it belonged.

Surely she was wrong, surely the spiritual pressure did not belong to whom she thought it did. But as she looked to Zetsu-maru as he bounded around the room she began to wonder if in fact she was right. It would explain her zanpaktou spirit’s sudden ecstatic mood, not to mention the sudden knot in her stomach. Lightning knew that they were going to be at her front door in moments and began to slowly walk towards it, she could walk at a normal pace if she needed but why do so when she did not have to? She was but metres from the door when knocks upon it’s surface sounded out, rapidly increasing her pace Lightning was at the door in a matter of seconds. Taking a deep breath to steady herself before she opened the door Lightning tried to prepare herself for who might be on the other side.

As she opened the door it seemed that her preparations were in vain as she found herself staring into a pair of familiar blue eyes, the knot in her stomach exploded into a million butterflies as she was sucked into the pools of blue. “Cloud….” Lightning’s voice was soft and her surprise was evident in her tone as she spoke. Something moving stole her attention from the eyes that had her so entranced, looking down she noticed a rapidly moving figure bounding around. A smile graced her lips instantly as she realised what the figure was, crouching down ignoring her aching side and leg Lightning outstretched her hands to the canine. “You must be Fenrir” Lightning was an affectionate person when it came to animals, it might seem odd that she was able to be open and affectionate towards animals and yet she was so awkward and closed off to other people. But those that understood her childhood would know the reasons behind those strange facts. She had been abandoned by those that she needed, her parents had died and no-one else was there to aid her. Of course she did not blame her parents for dying but that did not stop her from getting the trust issues she dealt with even to the day. But animals, they were always there. She had grown up with the many homeless animals of the Rukongai streets, she would aid them and they in return would be there for her without doubt whether she needed protection or company…they would be there.

Waiting nervously in front of the door, Cloud couldn't help but stare at the odd behavior of Fenrir. It wasn't like him to act like this, he was always the calm and quiet type who rarely barked. "Is he excited to be going to meet Lightning or Zetsu-maru?!" Cloud asked himself. For Cloud, he was happy to be seeing Lightning more than anything else but this time he didn't know why he felt nervous. It was as if he was puzzled to be visiting Lightning at her house for the first time ever. He started to think of what would be her reaction to seeing him again. His heart wanted her to feel rather delighted and over the moon. Yet, his pride and logic said otherwise to him. He felt that by logic everything should have gone back to normal, he would bow down to her in respect as the difference in rank and address her by the suffix Taichou and all that.

A few minutes passed when she finally opened the door, Cloud couldn't help but turned his eyes from Fenrir to look at her adorable Aqua light blue eyes. Once again he found his Soul trapped inside that maze of an eye of hers. He found himself staring foolishly at her for so long that he didn't even notice her call out his name. He shacked his head quickly and smiled "Lightning..I am glad to see you’re alright" He replied in a calm way. He found himself uncontrollably calling out her name without a suffix. Maybe he felt like this way he was breaking the obstacles between them, like maybe he was showing her his feeling towards her as not a lieutenant and captain but rather as a shinigami who is attracted to another. Cloud scattered with his eyes to examine her wounds, there were any bandages wrapped anymore which meant that the wounds had finally closed, he sighed in relief as he noticed her lean down to somehow welcome Fenrir with open arms.

He surprisingly found Fenrir jump into the arms of the beautiful captain and rest there. This was miracle to see, Fenrir was never the harmless type when it came to humans or Shinigamis, he would growl at them or even attack if he felt the least interest in them. Yet now, before Cloud's eyes Fenrir had accepted this female Captain with joy. It appears she didn't have that effect on him only then, even Fenrir appeared to like Lightning.

Cloud found himself leaning down as well beside Fenrir, he smiled to him and spoke in a friendly tone "Fenrir, This is Lightning" He paused for a moment when he found the grey wolf bark in a pleasant way at the sound of her name. He then looked at Lightning "Its rare for him to grow attached to shinigamis..You must be unique" he said as he smiled warmly to her. Cloud could feel that the bond between him and Lightning was growing stronger every minute they were with each other. It was indeed a nice thing to notice by Cloud

Lightning fought back a blush as Cloud said he was glad she was alright, why was it that such a statement made her feel that way? She had been told those exact words many times before….. And yet coming from him they seemed to have an entirely different effect. She didn’t notice the lack of suffix in his greeting, nothing about what he said seemed odd…… to her the lack of suffix felt right. She returned Cloud’s smile with one of her own as she too found her eyes flickering at warp speed to where his wounds had been, seeing no bandages remaining she knew that he was alright. “Thank-you, I am glad to see that you are doing well also.” Lightning might not have been able to stop the trance that his eyes held over her if it was not for Fenrir’s enthusiastic, if not slightly delayed reaction to her greeting him. Taken off of her feet by the leaping canine Lightning fell backwards from her crouched position onto her butt as the canine sat upon her lap with a smile large enough to illuminate even the darkest of nights and his tongue hanging from his head like a monkey from a tree.

A warm smile graced the normally stern face of the 6th division captain as she looked upon the canine’s expression of joy, there was just something about animals that made Lightning feel the need to smile. Something she was beginning to feel when she looked upon the man before her also, for what reason she did not yet know…. But she was beginning to suspect a reasoning behind both her mind and body’s reaction to him. When Cloud introduced her to Fenrir and he barked in response Lightning couldn’t help but see the resemblance between the pair and Zetsu-maru and herself. She was about to speak to Fenrir once more and say that it was good to meet him, however before she could do so she was silenced by him as he licked her cheek. Bursting into laughter as she playfully fought with the canine’s head in an attempt to save her face from further ‘cleansing’ Lightning spoke to Cloud in response to his statement in breaks from her laughter. “Really?!….I would never have guessed he was a grouchy little guy” Turning her gaze back to the wolf that threatened to lick her to death if she did not put up a fight she changed her voice to a tone most would reserve for talking to babies as she ruffled his ears about playfully. “Your not a grumpy little guy are you? No you’re a cutie. Yes you are”

Many might find Lightning’s way with animals odd, she had been told many times in her life that she was odd for speaking to them like babies….but she had only ever gotten good reactions from those that she had spoken to in such a way. It seemed to her that they enjoyed it, well in moderation anyway. Anyone would get frustrated if you spoke that way all of the time, even babies. The only animal she knew that did not like to be babied from time to time was Zetsu-maru, although she supposed he couldn’t be classified as an animal in all truth. Lightning was actually surprised that Zetsu-maru was remaining out of sight, she figured that he must have been checking the new visitor out from what he deemed safety before he lunged in and said his greetings.

Fenrir was having the fun of his life now with Lightning, he kept licking on her cheek and playing with her. Lightning on the other hand seemed to be enjoying her moment with him as well, she was truly the caring character even to animals, and this was something odd to notice in the history of Soul Society to find the Captain of the 6th division a caring one. Cloud knew all along the Captain of the 6th division was always part of the Kuchiki family, who were known to their cold hearted behavior and prideful actions. Yet, Lightning seemed to be the odd one out of those all, he knew she wasn't part of the kuchiki family, even if she didn't tell him, the Kuchiki family had a unique way of dressing so he would have noticed something like that at the first time he saw her at the bridge. Anyway, Cloud was also surprised to witness something beyond a caring characteristic in Lightning, she seemed to be dealing with Fenrir as if he was a baby. Cloud couldn't help himself but smile to this scene.

But he soon patted Fenrir on the back lightly and looked at his eyes for a second when the wolf suddenly got off Lightning and went to stand beside Cloud, Cloud was worried that Fenrir's hyper energy would tire Lightning, even if her wounds were healed that didn't mean that her muscles were relaxed. Cloud quickly offered his hand to help Lightning up "You must be still tired from that clash at Rukongai" Cloud said in a worried tone. He started to remember every thing that happened that day from when he met her at the bridge until he fell asleep in the 4th divison. Too many events had happened that day, that was a memory that Cloud would never forget, it was already craved in his head in a safe spot and he was thankful to each and every minute of it. However, now Fenrir was standing beside Cloud silently without a motion. Even though he was a wolf, Cloud had full control over him. Fenrir would never disobey Cloud and understood him well it didn't take Cloud but a single glance at the grey wolf to understand that that was enough. Yet, Cloud was curious about why Zetsu-maru hadn't come out to play along with Fenrir. Of course Fenrir would feel at first confused and maybe afraid to be seeing a spirit made of nothing but spiritual pressure no bones or flesh to it. But Cloud was sure that it wouldn't take long until Fenrir would be good friends with him.

Noticing Cloud smiling at her and Fenrir Lightning felt her cheeks once again fighting back a blush, how on earth did his smile do that to her? As Fenrir responded to a tap on the back a look from Cloud Lightning was impressed with the control he held over the wolf, wolves were known for their free spirits and Lightning had her own experience with one of her own. Lightning knew that Cloud and Fenrir were close, she had known that since he first spoke of him that night at the bridge. There had been something in his tone that told her of their relationship, it was subtle but she had noticed it. Staring at the gloved hand that was offered to her for a moment Lightning felt the butterflies in her stomach go on the rampage, she was not one to accept aid from people so casually….. And yet the hand before her seemed to be calling out to her like a siren of the waters to take it in her own. Slowly reaching out as if the hand could possibly bite her Lightning accepted the aid to stand that the hand was offering her. Once on her feet she responded to Cloud’s words about the clash in Rukongai. “Just the usual residual aches and stiffness, how are you doing?” She couldn’t tell him that she hadn’t slept more then hours since that night, that she hadn’t been able to stop reliving the visions of that night. Even thought it was it was the truth she knew that to say those things would no doubt scare Cloud away, she didn’t fully understand it herself…how could she expect someone else to?

Seemingly bursting onto the scene to interrupt the moment they were sharing Zetsu-maru came running from around the side of the building at such a pace he could not stop himself in time and skidded to a halt about 10metres from his intended destination. Spinning around with such speed one would have though that dizziness would hit him Zetsu-maru started to jump around playfully wagging his tail in the air. Bowing to signify his eagerness to play Zetsu-maru barked several times and almost as if losing control of his excitement he began to roll around on the ground. Realising just how crazy her zanpaktou spirit truly was Lightning shook her head at his display, “I think he is excited to see you both” It was of course a statement that Cloud and Fenrir would have realised on their own but she found herself saying it for the sake of saying it. That was yet another thing that she found herself doing that she would normally not have done.

Cloud eyes caught something shiny rushing towards them at great speed, he didn't know that it was Zetsu-maru until he reached them and starting to jumping around happily. Fenrir quickly hid behind Cloud's legs, he seemed cautious and maybe afraid from Zetsu-maru, Fenrir had no experiences with other wolves, this was the first time for him to see one even if it was just a spirit. Cloud could feel that Fenrir was worried to step closer to Zetsu-maru and when Zetsu-maru started barking he made things worse. Cloud leaned down to Fenrir and started to pat him on the head lightly "No need to be alert or afraid Fenrir, his just a friend" Cloud said in an easy tone trying as much as he can to make him relax. Indeed it worked, Cloud observed as Fenrir slowly started to move towards Zetsu-maru and sniff him out. That was his way in getting to know any new person.

He now turned to Lightning, it seems in those couple of minutes he was introducing Fenrir to Zetsu-maru, and he somehow missed those Aqua eyes of her. He felt like they were the source of his smile now. He would uncontrollably find himself smiling each time he looked into them. "I guess he is, it is a good thing to have Fenrir get to play along with someone" he stated in a friendly way. Fenrir was now starting to be at ease with Zetsu-maru as he noticed them both playing with each other. He knew that they both would play along like that for days without feeling tired. His feet had started to hurt him, especially his knee. He wasn't supposed to stand on it like that for very long. He hadn't yet fully recovered; he decided to lean against the outer walls of her house while standing as to like distribute some of his weight against the wall. Cloud wanted to break the awkward silence that spread between him and Lightning for a moment there. "The weather is refreshing today..Don't you agree?!" he asked warmly as he took a deep breath.

Lightning had been watching the two canines play when Cloud spoke, it made her sad to think that Fenrir had not had anyone to play with other than Cloud himself. Seeing him so happy jumping around with Zetsu-maru made her smile, animals are always honest, you can always see their true emotions… they never hide them. Unlike Lightning herself whom had lived most of her life doing just that. Lightning noticed that Cloud had been favouring one leg over the other as he stood, he was placing most of his weight onto that same leg. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that his wounds were still bothering him, this made the smile fade from Lightning’s face rather quickly. As he leant upon the outside wall of the house Lightning knew he was not going to admit the pain, it was a matter of pride. Pride was something that she understood all too well, it was something that she had treasured herself for many many years. And yet she found herself willing to crush it for the man before her, she would injure her own pride if it meant protecting his. Snapped from her thoughts by a statement about the weather Lightning looked to the clear sky above her as a cool breeze blew past them both, the lack of the billowing captain’s haori felt odd to her. She had grown used to wearing it, but as she stood in the breeze she remembered just how much she hated the stupid piece of white cloth.

“It sure is, I hope the hot weather we have been having is good and truly over” Returning her gaze to eye level her gaze was once again drawn to the deep blue eyes of Cloud’s, she could see that he was uncomfortable even leaning on the wall and it only strengthened her commitment to what she was about to do. “My leg is beginning to bother me, would you be against heading inside to sit?” In truth Lightning’s leg was not the wound that gave her the most difficulty, her side and shoulder were the most bothersome and painful. However neither of those wounds gave her an excuse to get him inside to sit and get off of his injured leg, doing it this way meant that Cloud could keep his pride intact and still get to get off of his feet for a while. She was a creature of pride herself and therefore understood how important it was to those that valued it, but that same fact made her even more confused then before. If her pride was so important to her then why was she willing to scratch it, to dent it, to crush it for him?

Cloud looked up at the blue sky as well, she had that wrong there. The weather was far from getting hot today. It could actually start to get a little cold even. He noticed something rather odd to hear from Lightning at the sight of hearing her say that her leg was hurting her, he smiled to her a short warm smile. Lightning was truly an Elegant and sweet soul. He knew perfectly well that she must have noticed him leaning on the wall and thought that it was his pride that would make him not tell her to sit down, when on the contrary; it was his embarrassment from asking her such a request that made him endure the pain. Cloud had stopped using his pride with Lightning since their battle in Rukongai. He believed in the statement that said 'It is better to lose your pride with someone you love rather than to lose that someone you love with your useless pride' and he wasn't just willing to lose his pride for Lightning, he was ready to give out everything for her.

He smirked to her a slight sneaky smile, "Well since you noticed that my leg is hurting me, I guess I can't say no" he said in a silly tone. He followed her into the house as soon as he was inside his eyes scattered to examine the place. Her place suited her character very well. Its decoration was simple yet in a fashionable way. Even the Aura around the house held her beautiful scent and warmth. He didn't worry about Fenrir was still playing outside. He was sure he wouldn't run off to anywhere. Cloud now found it polite to wait for her to give him permission to sit. It had nothing to do with ranks but with respect.

Lightning blushed slightly as Cloud saw through her motives like glass, she opened her mouth to refute the claims but when no words came to mind she merely closed her mouth once more and smiled. It seemed she was not quite as right about Cloud’s motives as she thought she had been, perhaps pride was not the reason he remained silent about his leg. As they entered the house Lightning started to worry about whether it was clean enough, as her eyes searched around rapidly she determined that it was indeed so. Not that it really ever became messy, she spent most of her time in the division barracks or wandering the Seireitei on duty. As they entered a small hallway lead them to a large spacious opening that contained the open kitchen area to the left and the open lounge area to the right. The lounge area had an old fashioned in-built fireplace closed off by an intricate mesh covering to prevent the cinders from flying out onto the tatami flooring. It was of course not lit at the current time, it was not cold enough for that.

Lightning was not concerned about Zetsu-maru or Fenrir, she knew full well that Zetsu-maru would not lead Fenrir astray nor would he allow harm to come to his new playmate. She focused her attention on the lieutenant that stood in the middle of the lounge area as if afraid to be seated without express permission. Smiling as she tried to contain her chuckle Lightning spoke to Cloud. “You can take a seat you know, make yourself at home” There was yet another thing that she never thought she would hear herself say, she could have slapped herself for doing so many out of character things the past few days. Lightning herself had headed for the kitchen area and opened the refrigerator in order to retrieve a jug of cold water from within. Placing the jug on the counter top Lightning reached for a couple of glasses from a high cupboard as she spoke, luckily enough for her she was tall enough to reach them. “Would you like a drink? I have chilled water or fruit juice”

Cloud felt comfortable once again when he sat on the chair and spread his wounded leg to relax it. He could feel like his leg was screaming earlier and it stopped now. It was also sweet and a gentle act from Lightning to allow him to sit down and not just that she even told him to make himself at home. As if she was breaking down any left limits between them. "Thank you" he said cheerfully as he noticed her walk off to somehow the kitchen. He wasn't here to bother Lightning around with drinks, food and that kind of stuff. He was supposed to be paying her a visit to see how she was doing and maybe nurse her, but from what it looked like that she was the one doing all the work and he was just sitting there like a guest. Cloud didn't like that feeling as he once again felt helpless. He was a true pain on Lightning once again. As he heard her soft voice mention what he would actually like to drink he sighed slightly to himself. It seems he had come here for hospitality.

Yet, he didn't want to sound rude and saying nothing. He decided she wouldn't agree to such an answer anyway and they would get into an argument in what he would like to drink. So to save all the trouble he decided to make things simple "I'll have whatever you'll drink" he said in a calm way as he called out for her. He wanted to go to the kitchen and maybe help her out. But he knew she also would want her privacy. Yes, she had told him to consider himself at home. But still he shouldn't just stand up and wonder around the house. Anyway, there was something that made Cloud excited; the house seemed very tidy in a way that could almost say that no one entered it. It seemed not a lot of people used to visit her. That made Cloud feel rather special and that was exactly what he wanted to be to Lightning a special person.

Lightning thought for a moment on what choice she should make concerning the drinks, Cloud had said that he would have whatever she did but what one should she choose? She really didn’t mind what one she had and wanted to choose whichever one that he would have liked best, however she really had no idea which he would prefer. Finally deciding on the fact that he might not like the combination of fruit that the juice was she chose the safest drink of the two; the chilled water. Returning the jug of water to the refrigerator Lightning noted the scarce nature of her food, she would have to go shopping sometime soon. She had enough to last for now that was the most important thing, picking up the two glasses of water from the bench Lightning headed for the lounge area once again. The sight of Cloud resting upon the lounge made her smile, it was obvious that his leg was not bothering him now that the weight was off of it. At first she had been against using the lounge, it was a piece of traditional Japanese furniture and she found herself unfamiliar with it. But after a tiring day of paperwork and captain duties she had returned home and found that upon giving the chair a try that it was indeed a useful piece of furniture. In fact she awoke the next morning to discover that she had fallen asleep in the chair’s comfort.

Lightning handed Cloud the glass of chilled water as she spoke of the very chair he was seated upon. “It is a strangely comfortable piece of furniture is it not? I was against using it until one night after a particularly tiring day, I fell asleep it in actually” She had no idea why she was talking about something as trivial as a piece of furniture, but for some reason she wanted to talk to Cloud… no matter what the topic may have been. The sounds of Fenrir and Zetsu-maru could be heard coming from outside as they ran around and scuffled in the grass, Lightning was sure that Zetsu-maru would no doubt be running the poor wolf ragged.

Feeling a cool breeze blow through the room Lightning approached an open window, placing her glass of water down on the window sill she gripped the window itself with her hand. Unfortunately for her the window was rather stiff due to underuse, ignoring the fact that perhaps forcing an injured shoulder to force a stuck window to close was not the best idea she continued on her mission to cease the draft. Feeling the window beginning to budge Lightning was spurred on to keep going despite the pain that was welling in her shoulder, sometimes being stubborn truly is a burden. Suddenly the window gave way and slammed close with a rather loud audible thud, but Lightning did not pick her glass back up once again nor did she turn around to return to the chairs. She remained frozen facing the window as blood began to seep through her shirt and jacket, she wasn't really sure what to do. Placing her opposite hand onto the wound with pressure in an attempt to cease the bleeding she hoped that it would stop promptly.

Cloud examined the chair he was sitting on carefully when she mentioned that it was comfortable. Indeed she had a point there. Cloud could feel that the seat was absorbing all the tension from his muscles. He smiled up to her "It truly is" he replied calmly. He kept silent alone in the living room for a couple of minutes as Lightning was figuring out what to bring them; he finally found her come back with two glasses of water. It was just perfect, he wouldn't have asked for something more. He took the glass from her with a friendly smile as he started to sip on it calmly "This is really refreshing in a sunny day" he said friendly. Cloud then heard once again the sounds of Zetsu-maru and Fenrir, "wow, Fenrir is having the time of his life" he whispered himself as he turned his eyes to take a look at them while seated.

He noticed now Lightning stand up and walk towards the window to open it, he didn't give much of an attention at first as he thought she would easily open it and return to sit down. But when he found her having trouble with it, he remembered that she was wounded in her shoulder and forcing her muscles would result in opening the wounds once again. He stood up fast to rush and open it for her before she could overdo it, but it was too late. Cloud's eyes turned slightly wide as he spotted blood starting to appear from the outside and a little spilling on the floor, she seemed to be also frozen in pain."Lightning..Are you alright?!" Cloud couldn't help himself but quickly walk over to her, he didn't want to like help her walk to the couch since it appeared she was puzzled by what happened or moreover, not able to react. He decided to carry her and lie her down on the couch. Cloud placed her on the couch lightly ,got a chair in front of the couch to sit himself on and without waiting for more blood to spill, he quickly helped her take off her jacket and tore a part of her shirt to be able to look at the bandages which was soaked in blood.

Cloud felt a shiver race its way to his back once again to be seeing Lightning's blood. This image was not something that Cloud liked to see, he slowly started to unwrap the bandage of her shoulder making sure to do it as slowly and carefully as possible so it wouldn't cause her any pain. He then rushed quickly to the first-aid box which he knew was placed in every shinigami house in the bathroom. The blood was still flowing out and it needed to be ceased. He opened the box and got out a piece of cotton that was soaked with some kind of alcoholic substance that irons the wounds. Of course it was painful and burned like hell. But he hoped Lightning would bear it. Those wounds would have to close immediately. He looked at her with a painful look himself, it was as if he felt the same pain she was feeling "Sorry, Lightning, but this may hurt a bit" he said in a weak tone as he placed the wetted cotton on the wound. He tried as much as he can to mute his ears from listening to any kind of screams that Lightning might produce. He left the cotton for about 3 minutes then he pulled it off to find the blood had stopped completely and the wound have closed. Yet, her skin from around the wound was so red and hot when he touched it gently with his right hand. It seems that kind of alcoholic substance really does burn up the wounds.

He felt really sorry for Lightning now once again. This was yet again all his fault, he found himself uncontrollably reaching very close with his mouth towards the wound and blowing a slight cold breeze in attempt to like try and cool it down for her before he would wrap it once again with bandages for her.

(OOC: OMG I AM SO BRAIN DEAD x.X forgive the lame post -_-, you gave me much to write about but I gave you practically nothing x.X but there wasn’t much for her to do really, she didn’t want to push him away or anything so well yeah I was stuck xD it’s o.k if your post is short))

Lightning was frozen, she felt like such an idiot as she clutched her open shoulder wound with her other hand. She was a fool, someone that had made herself bleed opening a simple window. It wasn’t pain that had her frozen at the window, it was embarrassment. She heard Cloud’s words asking her if she was o.k but all she could muster was a quiet tone. “I’m O.K” It seemed that he had not heard her words, or perhaps he simply didn’t believe her…..it didn’t take a genius to figure out she was not being entirely truthful. She could sense him approaching her but she did not move to act, she was still frozen on the spot as she looked down at her seeping wound. Shock and embarrassment had taken a firm hold on her as she stood on the spot in front of the window.

A small gasp escaped her lips as she felt herself being lifted into the air, to say she was caught off guard would have been a major understatement. She was completely stunned by the action, unable to speak or even move as she felt herself being carried to what she figured would be a chair. She merely watched as Cloud dragged a chair over for himself to sit upon as she lay on the couch, she felt as though her mind was no longer in her body. She was thinking, hearing and seeing but she was unable to act, it truly was as though she was frozen. As Cloud started to unzip her jacket in order to remove it so he could get to the wound Lightning’s heart started to beat faster and she felt her face began to flush, she watched from inside her mind as she started aiding him in it’s removal.

She didn’t truly understand why she was allowing such a thing, even if she was injured she would never have allowed anyone else to remove her jacket. Even if it was to treat a wound, she did not like to be touched….and yet here she was allowing it as if it was nothing. She found herself staring at him like a stunned mullet as her started to expose her wounds through a tear in her shirt, all she could hear was her heart beating. Her cheeks began to flush even more than they had previously as she realised exactly what was happening, yes he was tending to her wound and was probably not even thinking about the actions taken to do so…..but the fact remained that he had removed her jacket and torn her shirt. By now she would have inflicted severe pain upon the person that had dared to do such things, very severe pain in fact.

Amazed by how gentle the same hands that fought in battles were as they carefully removed her bandage Lightning almost found herself reaching out to touch them, yet she found herself still frozen watching from inside her own mind. As Cloud rushed off Lightning found herself snapping from the state she had been in, touching her hand to her wound in response to the ache it gave her the sight of her blood seemed to thaw her from her frozen state. As she started to stir and prepared to stand up from the chair it was if everything that had happened but a moment ago was a dream, a dream that turned reality as Cloud re-entered the room. She could see what he was holding and knew immediately what was going to occur, she was going to speak and tell Cloud that it was alright, that he did not have to care for her so. Deep down she didn’t dislike it, in fact if she searched her heart long enough she would find that she liked it. But her words formed slowly on her tongue and by the time she was about to verbalise them Cloud was speaking and a familiar burning sensation began upon her shoulder wound.

Lightning remained silent as she dealt with the pain from the wound, she was not one to vocalise pain. It was an awkward silence for the few minutes that Cloud applied pressure to the wound, she could see in his eyes that he was feeling her pain. It made her sad to know he was suffering with her, but at the same time it gave her a warm feeling to know that he cared so much. It was almost beginning to be too much, she felt herself struggling against a flood of emotions as she watched the blonde before her. Her body jolted under the gentle touch of his cold hands against the burning wound, she found herself being covered in Goosebumps from head to toe. Everything that happened from that moment on seemed as if it was occurring in slow motion, as the cool breath hit her skin Lightning felt as if something inside her snapped. Acting without any thought Lightning had placed a hand onto Cloud’s shoulder, her voice was soft as she spoke. “Cloud…..” She couldn’t do much but look into the pools of blue that had drawn her in, she didn’t want to make Cloud think she was upset in any way. She was merely confused and wrestling with emotions that she did not fully understand, she was also confused as to what was happening. She had never been treated with such delicacy and care, nor did she understand why Cloud was doing so. She wanted to understand the reasoning behind his actions, she also wanted to know that she was not the only one feeling such confusing emotions…not that she would ever simply admit that was her reasoning behind the next word that was muttered from her mouth. “Why?….” In a way the hand on his shoulder could have been seen as a way to have gotten his attention but it held a deeper motive that not even she truly knew of, she didn’t want him to move away from her.

It was ironic how Cloud was touched and done all that with just noticing the red color of blood on her. It was clear now for him; he wasn't just attracted to Lightning. He was in deep love with her. He may at first thought it was just a crush but by looking into her Aqua blue eyes continuously he knew it wasn't just a crush. He was prepared to put his life on the line for her and gladly. Cloud could feel his heart get taken from him each time she mentioned his name, her soft tone was like music to his ears. Cloud knew she must have noticed how much he cared about her; it was obvious from his actions. No one would risk himself for someone else that easily, no one would try to endure the pain in himself for her not to notice. However, Cloud was now triggered in his emotions once again when he noticed her hand reached out to his shoulder. He at first thought that was a sign of how painful the wound must have hurt her so he placed his hand over her own.

But then he was asked a question that made his eyes go slightly wide and begin to be puzzled, a question that he himself had no answer to or rather never really thought about it. It was just 3 letters that came out of her mouth with her adorable soft tone which made Cloud trapped in a maze of questions without an exit. 'Why' was the key word? He kept silent for a few moments as he became driven away by his own thoughts "Why indeed" he asked himself, he was trying to contradicted himself. He has thinking just for a short while ago as he was tending to her wounds that he loved her, yet, now he couldn't bring himself to say it. Was it just an inner emotion, something that he only felt from the inside but didn't want to expose it. He was tangled in thoughts now. But he soon snapped out from all these thoughts like broken glass. Her hand wasn't a sign of pain; it was rather a sign of gratitude and love. He found that his heartbeats were getting faster and his calm face wasn't there any longer it was replaced with a rather shy and slightly red faced Cloud.

Cloud had never experienced the word 'love' before with all its definitions. He didn't even have a family to begin with in his past life to like feel their love. That word was extinguished from his heart as well as his dictionary until he met Lightning, he noticed that the word had been reborn once again, as he felt a feeling that he had never felt before, the feeling of having someone to care about, someone to feel safe and happy when you are with, someone who when smiles you feel the whole world is smiling back to you. With all that, he closed his eyes and leaned down towards her face slightly as he did something that would be seen in just his dreams, he kissed Lightning for mere second, he felt that his lips were on fire from being against hers as he pulled off slowly and looked at her with a smile he never knew he had "Is that enough for an answer?!" he asked with a calm voice.

There they were her hand being held on his shoulder with his own as they sat in silence for what seemed like forever, she had asked a hard question she knew that…..but still the silence was hard to bear. Thinking perhaps she should not have asked that question Lightning would have to speak and apologise, the last thing she wanted to so was offend him or to have been completely wrong and made him feel awkward around her. As she thought of the words to say she noticed the gentle shade of crimson that had crept across Cloud’s face, it was true….she had embarrassed him and made him feel awkward. Hating herself for having asked that one word Lightning felt her heart sink at the thought that she had ruined the bond that cared about so deeply with just one simple word. It was the last thing in the world that she had meant to do, the last thing in the world she wanted to happen.

Caught up in her own thoughts and fears Lightning was shocked as she noticed Cloud leaning in towards her, part of her knew what was to come and yet another part of her refused to believe it. Once again it seemed as if time passed by slower then a snail, all she could hear was her own heart beating rapidly against her chest. She had been in this situation a few times before, of course they were all unwanted advances which ended with her inflicting severe pain upon those had tried. But here she was allowing it….no wanting it to happen. Nerves began to take over her body at the thought that she would be given her first kiss, it was perfect really. Never had she felt this way about anyone, and she held no doubt that never again would she. As his lips met hers gently she felt as though she would explode with the emotions stirring within her, never had she felt so happy. The kiss lasted but a second but what a second it was, as the kiss was broken and Cloud spoke she felt her face break into a full blown blush. No doubt she was a red as a strawberry, fighting with embarrassment and a multitude of other emotions Lightning simply leant her head forward so that her forehead would bump into his and rest there. A smile swept across her now fully blushing facial features as she spoke, “Baka” She did not mean the term in a rude or derogatory manner, in fact as she hoped that her tone would tell she meant it in an affectionate and teasing way. Oh how she hated to be embarrassed and to lose her cool, but this time it was worth such a cost.

Happiness was a small word to express how pleased Cloud was from the inside. He didn't want anything else from the world, he was not complete. Even his past purpose of power had changed now, he just wanted to be with Lightning forever, beside her to help and for his own help and just now he was sure after he kissed her that that was the same emotions she held for him. He could read it all over her beautiful Aqua blue eyes. His face was starting to grow normal once again; he then gave her a warm smile as she leaned with her forehead against his. He could now feel the touch of her face against his which was making him grow crazy, not to mention her lovely scent that was spreading around the place. He wanted to stay like this for as much as he can, to have his face this close to her, he reached with his right hand and began to run with the back of his fingers down her cheek, her skin touch was so soft and warm as he spoke out the words that were caged inside of him for so long. The words that wanted to break free "I love you" he said in a soft way as he stared into her eyes.

He then noticed that he hadn't yet finished her wound and having her lean that way could reopen them once again. He leaned back with his head from her giving her a relaxing look "I have to finish tending your wound, silly" he said in an easy way. There was no longer a fear from rank. The red lines that were put between them have already been removed. He rested her to lie once again on the couch lightly and spread her right arm horizontally so he could wrap the bandages once again around her shoulder. He made sure to make it as easy as possible, in just a few minutes he was done. Cloud now reached with his hand once again and brushed her hair off her face "Don't move much now, if you need anything just tell me" he said easily with a friendly smile

The part of her forehead that was touching Cloud’s own was sending a strange sensation throughout Lightning’s body, she felt warm….happiness was not enough to how she was feeling. For the first time in as long as she could remember Lightning felt at peace, as if the loneliness that she had held deep down within her had been erased completely. She felt as though she could float away in the winds that were blowing outside, relaxed was by far an understatement. The gentle act of Cloud running his fingers across her cheek made her feel as though she could cry, never had she known such kindness or been treated so gently. His fingers were strong but yet somehow so gentle, he held such strength but yet he was so delicate at the same time. It truly was a puzzle of epic proportions that she could not even begin to wrap her mind around. As Cloud muttered three words that she never thought she would hear coming from another, a sudden realisation hit her. That was it, that was the cause behind all of those odd things she had been doing and saying. That was the cause of all of the foreign emotions and thoughts she had been having; love. Love was behind it all, she never thought she would ever feel that way for another.

Had it been fate that brought them together on that night? Even if that was the case she would still have to thank Zetsu-maru for the role he played in the meeting. Speaking three words that she never thought she would say Lightning smiled and returned the gaze that Cloud was giving her, those eyes were truly ones that could hold you forever……and she was just fine with them doing so. She was still shy about what she was saying and how she was acting, for someone that had been so closed off for so long it was hard to do. But even if it was hard, she would do anything for the man before her. “I love you too”

Seeing Cloud act so casual with her as he joked around with having to finish dressing her wound made Lightning smile once more, she was so glad that there were no ranks between them now, that he saw her as an equal and not a royal guard. “Alright if you insist doctor” Lightning continued the playful manner of speech as she leant back once more so that Cloud could tend to the wound. Lightning closed her eyes as Cloud wrapped the wound, she couldn’t believe that everything was truly happening, she needed to know that when she re-opened her eyes that he would be there. Relaxing and laying down soon took it’s toll upon her tired body, she had not truly slept since the events of the night that brought them together. She lost the battle against the sleep as Cloud wrapped her shoulder, it could only have been for but a moment but the fact remained she had fallen into slumber. Waking once more from the brief fall into slumber as Cloud finished wrapping the wound Lightning felt herself tense and begin to panic, she could no longer feel his touch, had it been no more than a dream?!

Then as she opened her eyes once more a gentle touch was felt upon her cheek, looking into the blue eyes that were looking at her so tenderly was the best way to have woken that she could ever have imagined. It was real, it was not a dream. That simple thought made her calm down and her body relax almost instantaneously. Reaching up with her hand she held Cloud’s own to her cheek, she was tired but she didn’t want Cloud to go. In fact she wanted to stay as close to him as she could, looking into his eyes as she blushed once more Lightning made a request. “Stay for awhile?” Lightning thought that perhaps asking someone to stay with her as she rested was selfish, but she couldn’t fight the feeling she held inside.

Suddenly almost as if to interrupt them the sound of heavy rain began to sound throughout what had been a relatively silent day. Speaking as if she just had an epiphany Lightning voiced her thought “Fenrir…” She couldn’t just stay there when Fenrir would get soaked, unconsciously ignoring Cloud’s request she allow him to attend to anything she needed had moved to get up. As she listened to the heavy rain beating down Lightning’s gaze flickered to the fireplace and then to her hallway, “I will start the fireplace and get him a towel while you let him in” Lightning wasn’t really telling Cloud what to do, her tone showed that she was asking a question at the same time. She knew that he wanted her not to move, but not doing something and allowing others to do everything was something she was accustomed to doing.

The moment he heard the magic words he was over the moon. Nothing else mattered now. He wanted nothing else from the entire world. His emotions were over flowing and that could be noticed from the look on his face and eyes. Never had he experienced such sweet emotions, neither had he understood them. He used to laugh sarcastically about others who claimed to have died for love; he thought that this was nothing more than a foolish overreacts of emotions. But there he was fully prepared to do the same foolish thing he once believed was wrong. Lightning was such a sweet and caring person, he knew that from the first time his eyes fell on her. She was not like any other he had met in Soul Society. After he finished wrapping the bandage around her wound and advised her not to move, he found himself smiling to her request. It was something that made Cloud actually delighted. He wanted to stay beside Lightning not for a short while but rather forever. She was now the source of his happiness, the light that shines his world.

"I am not going anywhere" he stated calmly while he leaned backward slightly to take a look outside at the sudden change in weather to a rather blowing windy and heavy rain. He was surprised to the sudden change of a sweet sunny day to a rather unwanted rainy one. When he turned his blue eyes from the door to look at Lightning once again, he found her calling out the name of his wolf and just about to get up and move to try and start the fireplace. Cloud found himself reach out with both his arms and rest them lightly on her shoulders "Lightning..Calm down, Fenrir is fine..see!!" He turned and whistled with a unique tone to find Fenrir quickly rushing inside the house as well as Zetsu-maru behind him then Cloud made a sign with his hand to Fenrir as he closed the door. Fenrir was indeed a loyal friend rather than a pet.

He turned his calm gaze back to Lightning in a way to calm her down as well "And don't worry about the fireplace.. I will start it" he paused for a moment as he chuckled lightly "As for Fenrir, he can dry himself no need to worry about that" he continued in a relaxing tone as he stood up and walked over to the fireplace, he was thinking at first to ignite it by maybe a level 31 shukahou..But then he shaked his head from the bad idea. He might not be able to control a small amount of energy in it and end up putting the entire house on fire. It was better off to get back to the old fashion way. He decided to start the fireplace by a lighter he found in the kitchen. By now Fenrir had already finished drying himself and was now lying down beside the fireplace relaxing or which appeared to be sleeping. He had done way too much effort today than any other he experienced before and for that he needed his rest. As for Cloud he stood up from beside the fireplace to head and sit beside Lightning once again he found the eager to tell her something to open a discussion. He wanted to keep on talking with her for days "You know..Your Aura is rather the most warming I've ever felt" he stated with cheerful glowing eyes.

((OOC: im sorry x.X i had to go shopping and stuff then i came back and had to despam the site again x.X and then i had a headache and couldnt think of anything to write to continue the thread on x.X ))

The presence of both of Cloud’s hands upon her shoulders restraining her from sitting up more than the tiny amount she had managed made the fact he was serious about her not getting up very apparent. She was slightly puzzled as Cloud said that Fenrir was fine and for her to ‘see’ she looked to the door but did not see the canine there, then her eyes darted back to Cloud as he whistled in an unusual manner. The sounds of paws hitting the paving that lead to her doorway became audible and within moments a very wet and yet still over the moon Fenrir appeared in the doorway with Zetsu-maru close behind him. It seemed that Cloud had Fenrir extremely well trained, even more than she had previously thought. Yes getting a wolf to come to your call might not sound like much, but they are rather strong willed and spirited creatures. Not to mention when he was having fun out there in the outdoors with his new friend there would have been a few voices in his head telling him not to heed the call. However as Fenrir closed the door behind him Lightning found herself raising an eyebrows at the sight before her, now that was interesting.

Lightning had sat up slightly curling her legs up to make room for Cloud as he walked to backwards her and the couch she was seated on. Lightning found her tired eyes watching the flickers and spark of the fire that rested within the fireplace, there was something strangely hypnotising about the way it burnt. The next words from Cloud’s mouth made Lightning’s eyes widen ever so slightly in surprise, she had never been told anything remotely to what he had just told to her. Warm was far from what she had been told of herself, from the rumours she had heard of the thoughts on her……and yet now those words had just passed by her ears. Slowly she turned her head to face Cloud and looked into his blue eyes once more, a warm and sincere smile graced her lips as she spoke. To be honest she was kind of lost for what to say, she wasn’t used to such situations. “really? I think your special too” She could have kicked herself for saying what she just did, he tells her something so meaningful and she said that?! There it was, once again Lightning’s words betrayed her heart. She never was any good at vocalising her feelings, and once again it had gotten her angry at herself. Normally she didn’t care if what she said came off wrong or if it offended people, but this time was different….she cared and she cared a lot. “I mean…..” She just couldn’t think of the words that her heart wanted to say, hanging her head she released a deep sigh. “I’ve never been very good at…..talking about things”

As Cloud turned back to face her and spoke of starting the fireplace for her Lightning’s mouth opened to speak, to say that it was indeed o.k and that she would do it. But as she saw the sincerity and compassion that was in his eyes, upon his face and that laced his words she soon gave up on doing so and merely closed her mouth once more. Acting injured, allowing someone else to do things that she would normally do for herself, these were things that she was not used to. She had always done things for herself, fought her own battles and stood tall on her own strength, but now she had someone that wanted help her, to protect her and to hold her up should she falter…..it truly was something she never thought she would have. But it was something she was grateful to have found, something she hoped she would have forever. She wasn’t sure how Fenrir would dry himself and perhaps she should have been paying more attention to the canine to see how it was he would do it but she found herself watching Cloud as he tended to the fireplace. As Fenrir walked over and laid down by the fireplace Lightning smiled at the exhausted wolf, it seemed that Zetsu-maru truly had taken his toll on the poor little guy. As he curled up in the bask of the warmth from the fire Zetsu-maru realised his friend had had enough playing for the time being, returning to wherever it was he stayed when not being manifested by Lightning with a small bark Zetsu-maru disappeared from sight. He knew that not everyone had as much energy as he did, in fact Lightning herself would struggle to rival him in that department.

There it was yet again, she had just said something that wasn’t what she had truly meant. Why couldn’t she just say that hearing that made her heart swell and that she wanted to apologise for the fact she was useless verbalising emotions?! No, she had to say some of the most stupid things she could imagine didn’t she. Feeling utterly useless and fearing she had upset Cloud somehow through her lack of emotional response Lightning thought she would give it one last go, she had to get it right this time. “What I mean is, I’m not very good at verbalising my emotions…..thank-you Cloud. Hearing it from you means a lot, even if it is the first time I have heard it. As long as you think it that’s all that matters” Hoping her smile aided her in getting the true meaning across to him through her muddled and confused words.

As he heard her mention the word special and then get all puzzled up, he couldn't help himself but chuckle. Lightning was indeed an innocent soul, she maybe he was flirting around with her with sweet words, but what she didn't know is that Cloud never gives a false compliment. He doesn't care to express himself. If he likes something he says it and at the same time if he doesn't like something he would freely express it. Yet, Lightning just didn't want him to feel even more depressed she thought but just returning the word with something else could make him feel better. Cloud then found himself flickering her forehead as he leaned back beside her on the couch looking at the fireplace. "You know words don't always give all the answers" He paused for a moment now as he turned his light calm blue eyes to look at her with a cheerful smile "Some things can just be expressed from here" he said as he pointed at his heart. He knew his words would actually reach her in the way they wanted them to. What he meant by all what he was saying is that some things don't need to be said by rather felt. So even if it's like she says things that she can't express by words. Cloud can feel it by heart.

He now turned his gaze to fall on the sleeping Fenrir at the fireplace. He was resting peacefully although the weather outside was changing into something terrible as Cloud started to hear sounds of thunder, he then while shifting himself on the couch to sit more properly accidently over twisted his shoulder. It hurt like hell; he hadn't yet fully recovered although his wounds were closed properly. His bones were still linking with each other again. He had stabbed himself that night rather foolishly even if it wasn't him. However, he didn't want to show off any signs of pain since even if it hurt him. There was nothing for Lightning to do and help him. Add to that, she would get up and start worrying on something simple like a cramp. He decided just to rest his shoulder on the couch lightly and the pain would wear off in a while.

Lightning was shocked by the gentle flick to her forehead, it was a simple and gentle way to cease her thoughts and yet it was incredibly effective. Finding herself snapped from her depressive thoughts Lightning found herself merely watching him as he leant back in the chair and listening to him as he spoke. He spoke the truth, sometimes actions spoke louder than words. Lightning just hoped that her actions and her often misspoken words would be enough, she never wanted to upset him, to make him think that she didn’t return his emotions. As she was watching him she noticed that he tensed as he used his shoulder to shift himself on the couch, it seemed that her shoulder was not the only one that was aggravated. She knew that she could do nothing for the pain, but that didn’t stop her from wanting to. Leaning across and gently resting her head on his non injured shoulder Lightning was doing something she had not done in a long time, relying on another and showing a more vulnerable side and yet it felt right somehow. She was relying on her actions to speak for her, to say that she felt his pain and that she wished she could take it away.

His shoulder was warm and his scent relaxing, she truly felt as though she could stay there forever. Lightning could hear the storm raging outside, the sound of the thunder roaring through the sky following after the lightning bolts that pierced the heavens and made their way to the ground. Lightning watched Fenrir as he slept in front of the fireplace with his legs twitching in his slumber, she imagined he was dreaming of his day with Zetsu-maru. She had no doubt in her mind that the wolf would never forget the exciting and tiring day he spent with the zanpaktou spirit. It made her start to think, this was the first actual wolf she had seen in the Soul Society. People had pets of course, even dogs but this was the first actual wolf that she had seen. It got her wondering how it was that he and Cloud had become the partners that they were today. With the questions getting the best of her she decided to ask, “How did and Zetsu-maru come to be the partners you are today? He is the first actual wolf I have seen in the Soul Society.” She knew that asking questions of another would lead to questions being asked of herself, but that did not bother her. There was no questions that she would not answer for him if he asked them of her, she truly felt as though there was nothing she needed to hide.

While Cloud was struggling to hide his pain from Lightning, he felt a cold yet soft touch on his skin, when he turned with his eyes; he noticed that Lightning was leaning against his other shoulder with her head peacefully. Somehow now he felt that all the pain was washed away like how the rain washes off the dirt from the grass. Cloud found himself now reach with his hand and hold tight to her own hand. Since he was feeling now peace and an unbelievable relaxation, he thought that a simple touch like that would help her feel the same way. He also leaned with his head against hers as she opened up a new discussion. Talking with Lightning was something Cloud was ready to do for hours or even days without getting bored or tired. He found that one word opens up the way to many and many side talks. Add to that, he still had a lot to know about Lightning.

As she asked about his friendship story with Fenrir, Cloud found himself close his eyes for a couple of moments as if he was remembering that day, he was just a very young kid back then left down in the streets in the cold weather with so little to eat. He hadn't yet known any of his friends in Rukongai. He was very lonely and hungry at the same time. While he was sitting alone in one of the dark corners of Rukongai he found something that resembled a dog walking slowly, it appeared to be really weak and about to drop dead. Cloud found himself walk off to the creature to find that it was an elegant grey wolf. The wolf looked at him with eyes that spoke of how little he had left before he would die, Cloud felt sorry for the poor thing; he also was very hungry as he hadn’t eaten for days now. But as they say, there is a light at the end of each dark tunnel. That source of light was a female shinigami who noticed the two helpless beings lie down on the ground. She offered Cloud some fruits and milk. He was speechless and didn't know who this was; he was too young to discover that those black cloaked creatures were called shinigami. He thought at then that she was nothing less than an angel from heaven maybe. He gave the weakened wolf the milk to drink. The wolf starting to lick the bottle as Cloud helped him at it and from there, they both become friends. All those memories popped up in Cloud's mind in a mere flash. He smiled to Lightning and thought of just summarizing all that up to her. "Well he went through the harsh life i lived as well in Rukongai..Until i found him and helped him out." he said calmly.

His eyes shifted now at the fireplace as he watched the spark of flames scattering. With the idea of his past been brought out to him once again, he wanted to know more about Lightning's past as well and he knew she wouldn't feel bothered by such a question as it wouldn't care if her past wasn't that of a noble one. He loved her for the person she is now. "Tell me then, how was your life back in Rukongai?" he asked as he wrapped his other free hand around her waist resting his hand on her wound at her stomach lightly.

Lightning felt her hand being held in the strong yet gentle grip of Cloud’s as listened to him speak, the simple act of holding hands was so foreign to her and yet she found it calming despite the unfamiliarity with the act. So many questions ran through her mind as Cloud told her of the way that he had met Fenrir, she knew that he had lived a harsh childhood in the poorer districts of Rukongai but she didn’t know of any family he might have had as well as many other small things. It made her realise just how quickly they had fallen for each other, Lightning had always thought that true love was something that took time to develop. But if what she was feeling wasn’t true love then frankly she didn’t want to find it, this was everything she wanted. Perhaps this was one of those love at first sight instances she had heard about, funny that she who was so sceptical would end up becoming a believer in such a way.

Lightning felt her abdominal muscles jerk for but a moment before returning to being relaxed as Cloud’s hand rested itself gently on the wound on her side, it was but a reaction to being touched. Lightning still found herself to this day skittish with physical proximity and her body not used to being touched by others, this was due to the fact that she had not been one to experience it in her childhood. After her parents died there were no hugs or handholding, she found herself withdrawing from society and building walls around herself. But none of that mattered now that she had met Cloud, he was the only one that she would allow within those walls she built she built so long ago. Thinking on her answer for a moment Lightning had some small flashbacks fly threw her mind, the smiles of her parents faces; the parents she did not fully remember. The sounds and smells of the streets of the district she called home for those years after her parents died, the lonely nights she would spend curled up under shelter with the animal orphans she then called family.

“Hard, my parents died when I was 5 years old. I was taken in by an elderly lady that barely managed to get by herself, she took me into the run down shack that was her home. I was with her for little over a year before she too died.” Lightning remembered the face of the old lady, she couldn’t remember her voice anymore but her smile and her face was imprinted in her memory. “I blamed myself for her death, I thought if it hadn’t been for me then she would have had what she needed to survive. I refused to accept aid from anyone else and lived by myself for the remainder of my time in the districts. I imagine we fought many of the same battles to survive, I found myself living with the orphaned animals. We became a family, I don’t know how long I lived there before I was found by a shinigami who caught me stealing from a stall. I owe them my life, it was because of them I was able to enter the academy.” Lightning closed her eyes as she rested her head on Cloud’s shoulder, moving her free hand around behind Cloud Lightning returned the embrace y wrapping her hand around Cloud as well. Lightning knew if she was anymore relaxed and comfortable she would be unable to fight the sleep that she was waging war against. “What of your family?”
